Discription Of Partner

Szent László Gimnázium is a comprehensive grammar school in Kőbánya, the tenth district of Budapest. Kőbánya is a partly residential, partly industrial area with a number of disadvantaged areas such as closed-down factories and blocks of flats inhabited by families with poor educational backgrounds and little income.

Szent László Gimnázium has two sections: one for 15- to 19-year-old teenagers to provide their seconary school education and one for grown-ups who dropped from secondary school or didn't even start it to prepare them for the "matura" examination in the form of a four-year course. Both sections have students with difficult backgrounds (immigrant families, financially disadvantaged families, gypsy families, etc.) and with learning difficulties (dsylexia, for example). In addition, students in the "adult" section make a special, respectable effort in their studies as most of them come to school and attempt the "matura" examination beside their full time jobs and looking after their families.

The teaching staff in our school attempts to achieve high academic standards at all times and also works hard at improving themselves. In cooperation with a training company (Profil Training LTD.) we have been working on a special attitude-training course for both teenagers and adults (including teachers). In our experience, success roots from the right kind of attitude (towards ourselves as well a towards the goal we wish to achieve). This so-called Mentality Training could be our contribution to an international co-operation related to adult education.

According to the latest neurobiological studies disadvantageous thinking pattern or internal dialogue hinder your strengths from blossoming which is  the main cause of lack of success and happiness in life. Rewriting your way of interpreting difficult situations lead to the unique experience of flow (by Michael Csíkszentmihályi, psychologist), and a more effective and harmonious cooperation between people.

  1. Evaluation, new challenge

Adapting already existing teaching material to different type of audience. In most cases it requires only slight modification but it needs cooperation with Profil Training LTD

Minutes Of The Conference

Minutes of the Grundtvig conference in Budapest

November 21st

The headmaster of Szent László Gimnázium welcomed the participants of the project and opened the conference. As it was the first meeting, all the participating institutions introduced themselves with a PPT presentation (France, Spain, Turkey, Norway, Hungary). While watching the presentations participants asked questions about the structure and working methods of the particular institution dealing with or/and helping adults, adult learners. By the end of the first day of the conference all participants had a clear picture of the institutions’ main fields and aims. The participants were shown around in the building to see the working facilities and conditions in the Hungarian institution.

November 22nd

The Hungarian presenter introduced the theoretical background of their best practice with a PPT presentation (see attached files). The participants asked questions to have a better understanding of it. With the help of three tasks (see attached files) in groups of three the Hungarian presenter and her colleagues explained the usefulness of their best practice. After doing these practical tasks each group discussed their experience and first impressions about them. Finally all the participants as a big group swap their ideas about the best practice and made some concluding comments.

At the end of the day the participants discussed the date and place of the next conference (18-20 April, Rennes). They agreed on the form of a description sheet of best practices which helps to write a summary of how valuable the best practices can be for each institution. The Turkish partner volunteered to create a website where all the information about the participants, the process and results of each conference can be displayed.
